BURGH ISLAND HOTEL - www.burghisland.com

Located on a tiny island off the coast of Bigbury on Sea, Devon, and not far from the quaint Devon village of Kingsbridge, this is the most amazing Art Deco experience one could ever imagine. During a recent stay I had the privilege to take photographs which illustrate the many Art Deco features and Page One of my Gallery featuring the peacock glass domed Palm Court Bar can be viewed HERE - I would welcome enquiries from anyone planning a wedding at Burgh Island Hotel who seeks a competent professional photographer to capture the unique Art Deco atmosphere within the wedding coverage. I have researched the many captivating corners of this unique Art Deco wedding venue - which is licensed to conduct civil weddings - so can be confident in giving a very varied photographic coverage to the lucky bride and groom.
The bride will need to pack her wedding dress securely, as her trip from the Devon mainland to the Burgh Island Hotel may very well be aboard the famous Sea Tractor - which is capable of crossing the sandy causeway in up to 2 metres of water when the tide is in - although if the tide is out then the hotel can transport her across the beach in a modern 4 wheel drive vehicle. Burgh Island Hotel was disguised as the Sandy Cove Hotel for the filming of Agatha Christie's "Evil Under the Sun" featuring actor David Suchet in the starring role of Hercule Poirot in the year 2000. Agatha Christie actually stayed at the hotel many years ago while she was writing the book.

The hotel, originally built in 1929 had become derelict, but it was thanks to Tony Porter and his wife Beatrice who purchased it in 1985, that guests can enjoy staying there today! Tony and Beatrice carried out extensive restorations to bring the hotel back to life and eventually sold it to the present owners - Tony Orchard and Deborah Clark - in 2001.
The history, an amazing book, and a video can be found on Tony Porter's website:- www.tonyporter.co.uk
